Use of Data

The Interactive Tutorials (Howdous) are assigned in Google Classroom, using our Chrome Extension. Only those creating assignments (e.g. teachers) need access to the Chrome Extension.

Users access the tutorials, as an assignment in Google Classroom via a link and sign in to Howdou using their Google Account.

Information We Collect:

  • Google Account ID

  • Email Address

  • First and Last Name

  • Google Classroom Details

  • User input as they complete the tutorials

  • Badges earned (Issued by Howdou Digital Credentials and presented in  each user’s Howdou Passport)

Those assigning tutorials to users must have obtained all required (parental) approvals and consents to use the above services.

Why We Collect This Data

The Chrome Extension is used to present Howdou user results for students bound to the current Google Classroom class. The data that we gather allows students and teachers to keep track of progress through Google Classroom.

Data Security

We employ a variety of technical measures to protect your data from unauthorised access, use, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include:

  • User data is stored by Howdou, on secure servers based in Sweden (inside the European Union).

  • We use access controls to restrict access to your data to authorised personnel only. These controls include user authentication, authorization, and role-based access control.

  • We use firewalls and other network security controls to protect your data from unauthorised access from the internet.

  • We use Data loss prevention DLP to prevent accidental or intentional data loss.

  • We have a vulnerability management program in place to identify and remediate vulnerabilities in our systems.

  • We provide security awareness training to our employees to help them identify and avoid security threats.

We do not share the data we collect with companies, organisations or individuals outside of Canopy Education CIC and Evalve EB.

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain student data for as long as your school is subscribed to Workspace Skills. After 24 months, behaviour data is anonymised. This involves removing or modifying data so that it cannot be linked to a specific individual. We delete data when it is no longer needed for the purposes for which it was collected, or when we are required to do so by law.

Accessing Your Data

Data can be accessed and amended through gcadmin (gcadmin.howdou.net) and Google Classroom, no direct access for amendment is available. User records are updated through Google Classroom API upon each user authentication.

We comply with Article 15 of the GDPR Legislation, a subject access request can be made by sending an email to tech@howdou.net and requesting data anonymisation.

Under Article 17 of the UK GDPR individuals have the right to have personal data erased. This is also known as the ‘right to be forgotten’. Individuals (or organisations) can request us to delete their data, using the contact details listed above.
